WE'RE BACK!

The SL Marathon has restarted following months on inactivity.

Thank you to our previous sponsors of the last season, many of who have felt the strain of the economic crisis, and sadly had to close. We hope you will able to join us in the new season.

The 2010 Racers Island Second Life Marathon will relaunch at 2pm SLT at Racers Island, on Sunday June 27th. Contact MrTodd Barbasz if you would like to attend.

Previous season rules remain the same. Especially the descripting rule - just so you're aware.

Look forward to seeing you there!

VALENTINES DAY RACE AT KJ RACINGS NEW CIRCUIT - REVIEW

Sunday was Valentines Day, so we marked this occasion with a special V Day SL Marathon. But with a special twist - couples get more.

Runners needed to pick a partner to be your running mate. Points will be allocated from 1st to 6th, like this 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3. The donation pot was run as normal, but, the couple with the highest scoring points between them (stressed, only if you pick a running mate) won L$500 each.

We were also given exclusive access to KJ Racings new sim and track, which looked fantastic, as the pictures prove.

The top six were...

1st aRTee Nuubert
2nd JokerH5 Bellic
3rd Niko Hurikan
4th Bumblebee Nakamura
5th Nella Boccara
6th Elayn Dezno

New tracks, new supporters of the SL Marathon

The SL Marathon is pleased to welcome two new supporters of the SL Marathon who have agreed to advertise for us and let us use their tracks.

Racers Island (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Racers%20Island/117/118/97) has already hosted a couple of races. You can even read about them at http://racers-island-raceway.blogspot.com/.

Also, Need 4 Speed Racetrack are supporting the SL Marathon and we'll be racing there on 12th January 2010 at 2.30PM SLT. You can visit the track at (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Racers%20Island/117/118/97).

The Need 4 Speed Marathon will be the first race to have the new no scripting rule in place.

From now on all SL Marathon races will mean that avatars will need to remove all scripts before racing, therefore ruling out secret items that may encourage cheating.

Welcome to the Second Life Marathon

Welcome to the all new website for the Second Life Marathon. Keep checking back here for updates on the SL Marathon in the future.

For the moment, check out the inworld notecard on the SL Marathon below...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ABOUT:

The SL Marathon is an all new competition created by MrTodd Barbasz.

The basic concept behind the SL Marathon is to create a competition in which any SL user, new or old, can compete for fun, without the need to pay out for expensive HUDs, AOs, vehicles or anything. Instead competitors do something which all avatars have, the ability to run.

Using various tracks around Second Life, competitors run against each other in order to reach the top spot, 1st place.

With Linden Dollars donated before the start of each race, the top six finishers have a great chance at winning big prizes.

The SL Marathon is simple, challenging but most importantly fun. Every new person that takes part always comes back for more.

So put on your running boots and get ready for some fun filled marathon racing.

JOIN THE SL MARATHON:

The SL Marathon is free to join. Please contact MrTodd Barbasz to join the group to keep informed about future races.

WEBSITE:

You can keep up with the latest information on the SL Marathon via our website at www.slmarathon.blogspot.com

WINNINGS:

The SL Marathon is a great way to win L$.

Before the start of each race, a donation pot is placed for runners or whoever to donate L$ to the winning pot. Of course, the more donated, the more that could be won.

Only the top 6 finishers in the race will receive a L$ prizes.

TRACKS:

SL Marathon tracks are picked at random and are at various different places in Second Life.

We currently have support and host races with Racers Island, SMC Racing and KJ Racing. Thank you to the owners of these sims for all your support.

If you would like your sim to host the SL Marathon please contact MrTodd Barbasz.

LAPS:

Lap sizes will depend based on circuit size, but usually don't go on longer than 3-5 laps. The race is usually finished in around 15-20 mins.

RULES:

The rules are very important, and are in place to stop one avatar having an advantage over the other.

Competitors may only use the basic running funtions found by pressing Ctrl R.

No flying

No cutting the track

No jumping

No AOs

No HUDs

No weapons

ALL SCRIPTED ITEMS TO BE REMOVED - This is important and there will be scripted tests before every race.

No cheating of any kind really. The race director, MrTodd Barbasz has the power to discipline any wrong doing he sees at his discretion.

At the start of each race, competitors will line up in front of the starting line alongside each other as not to give one person an advantage over the other. There is no qualifying format for SL Marathon races.

The the start of each race, a 3 second countdown will begin, only once 'GO' appears on screen do runners set off.
